Course Overview

A-Level Economics offers an insightful exploration into how societies use resources, make decisions, and respond to global challenges. The course equips students with an understanding of how markets function, how governments influence economic performance, and how international trade and finance shape our world.

Course Structure

The course is divided into microeconomics and macroeconomics, giving a comprehensive understanding of both individual markets and the wider economy.

 

Assessments

Assessment is entirely exam-based at the end of the second year.
Typical structure includes three papers:

  • Paper 1: Microeconomics (33.3%)

  • Paper 2: Macroeconomics (33.3%)

  • Paper 3: Themes in Economics (33.3%) – includes case studies and applied analysis

Exams combine multiple-choice, data-response, and essay questions to assess both knowledge and evaluation skills.

Entry Requirement

  • A minimum of Grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics
  • Grade 5 or above in GCSE English Language
  • An interest in current affairs, finance, and global issues
