Course Overview

A-Level Accounting provides a comprehensive understanding of how financial information is prepared, presented, and used in business decision-making. This course is ideal for students who enjoy working with numbers, analysing data, and understanding how organisations manage their finances.

At City Sixth Form, students learn the core principles of financial and management accounting, developing strong analytical and problem-solving skills essential for business, finance, and economics-related careers.

Course Structure

You will study the key areas of accounting practice, gaining a strong foundation in recording, analysing, and evaluating financial information.

 

Assessments

Assessment is through two written examinations at the end of the course:

  • Paper 1: Financial Accounting (50%)

  • Paper 2: Management Accounting (50%)

Each paper includes structured, numerical, and extended response questions testing your understanding, application, and analysis of accounting principles.

Entry Requirement

  • Minimum Grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics
  • Grade 5 or above in GCSE English Language
  • Logical thinking, numerical accuracy, and attention to detail

       Previous study of Business or Accounting at GCSE level is helpful but not required.
