Course Overview

A-Level Biology explores the science of life — from the smallest molecules to the complexity of ecosystems. At City Sixth Form, our Biology course combines theory with practical investigation, developing your analytical skills and scientific understanding through hands-on experiments and real-world applications.

Course Structure

This course covers the major themes of modern biology, providing a strong foundation for further study in science, medicine, and related fields.

 

Assessments

Assessment is through written examinations at the end of the course:

  • Paper 1: Topics 1–4 (35%)

  • Paper 2: Topics 5–8 (35%)

  • Paper 3: Synoptic paper and practical skills (30%)

Practical competency is assessed separately through a series of required experiments, leading to a Practical Endorsement in Biology.

Entry Requirement

  • Grade 6 in GCSE Biology or 6-6 in Combined Science
  • Grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics
  • A genuine interest in scientific exploration and experimentation
